Supporting Community Wellbeing in Stracathro & Inchbare
Stracathro & Inchbare Community SCIO works with local people to strengthen wellbeing, connection and resilience in rural communities.

Stracathro & Inchbare Community SCIO was formed in 2024, building on the legacy of the former village hall committee. We are a registered Scottish charity focused on promoting community wellbeing, rural resilience and inclusive connection across Stracathro, Inchbare and surrounding areas.
Our mission is simple. To provide accessible spaces and activities that support people to live well, locally.
Why We Exist
In rural communities like ours, isolation is a real challenge. Public transport is limited, services are stretched and many people, particularly older residents and carers, can feel cut off.
We believe community is one of our greatest strengths. By creating welcoming local spaces and opportunities to connect, we can support wellbeing, reduce isolation and help people feel part of something meaningful.
We are the main organisation in this area dedicated to community wellbeing, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We aim to transform the Kirk into a vibrant community space which people will be inspired to use imaginatively in a multitude of ways.
Our Place and
Our Heritage
Stracathro has been a place of community for centuries. From its Roman roots to its role in Scottish history during the abdication of King John Balliol in 1296, this area has long been shaped by people coming together.
We are committed to honouring that heritage while creating a space that meets the needs of today’s community. Our work respects the past, supports the present and looks to the future.
Our Current Focus
Our main project is the transformation of the decommissioned Stracathro Kirk into a multi-use wellbeing hub. The space will be:
- Warm and energy efficient
- Accessible and welcoming
- Flexible enough to support a wide range of activities and events
From fitness and wellbeing sessions to spiritual services, weddings and memory groups, the Kirk will once again have an important place in the lives of local people.
Community-Led and Volunteer-Run
Our work is led by local people, supported by volunteers and backed by community partners and funders. We have already secured early funding from local partners and national trusts, and we continue to build support as our plans develop.
Everything we do is shaped by the needs of our community and the belief that places like this matter.
